Homework: 30.09.2011 - due in 7.10.2011
Spellings: (Please remember we are now testing on a Thursday)
Please learn your spellings for this week. This week the spelling sheet has been adapted. It will inform you which PHASE AND SET your child is working on. Please continue to use the method:
- Learn the word (say the word aloud/think about the sounds – add the “SOUND BUTTONS” underneath if necessary – AND THEN cover it up so your child can’t see it and they are not simply copying it!)
- Write the word and check it
- Write the word again and check it
- If possible this method should be repeated several times at home, e.g. on a whiteboard/blackboard, magnetic letters if available or simply scrap paper!
* Homework:
Literacy: Now that your child has moved into Class Two we are teaching them the ‘cursive method’ of handwriting. This is to encourage them to develop a joined up style of handwriting when they are ready for it, as they progress through their school years. This style is also a dyslexia friendly approach and has many benefits!
The main rules are as follows:
- EVERY lower case letter starts on the line
- the early letters we practice are formed with the ‘c’ formation
- some letters are tall and reach into the sky (ascenders)
- some letters dig into the ground (descenders)
- WE do not use any letters in our style that are BOTH TALL AND LOW
- A capital letter always stands alone! (formed in the usual way!)
This week we have included a laminated sheet for you and your child to keep practice at home. This does NOT need to be returned to school. The red dots are to remind your child where to begin the letter.
- Don’t worry! This style of handwriting is very new to your child and will take time to develop but please encourage them at any opportunity to practice and develop it!
- If you have any questions please let me know or speak to me during your parents evening appointment.
THANK YOU!
