Maths Week Diary.
Monday 17th October
We liked going on the laptops today. We went on to snooker mathematic and sudoku. We also enjoyed working on repeated patterns. We completed a problem on the board about stamps. Some of us thought it was hard but some of us found it easy! The maths games were fun to play with, with Miss Helliwell. We all had to guess how many jelly beans were in the little Wallace and Gromit van. We are all eagerly waiting to find out who will win the jelly beans van and also who will enter the snooker maths tournement for our class. We are all excited about the hat competition on Friday. Who will win? I hope tomorrow we have fun and listen to instructions carefully.
Tuesday 18th October
Today was a fun day because we used smarties for fraction work and we got to eat them after we had completed our work. This work was easy and we have waited all day to see who has won the jelly bean competition. I think the next couple of days of maths week will be fun. We learnt how to use a greek abacus and had to do some addition sums on this. My favourite thing today was maths with ancient Greeks. We are still wondering who will go to the next round in the snooker competition. We are also waiting to know who will win the maths hat competition. Lots of us have made our hat now and can't wait to show it off. I hope we get to do some more maths patterns, learn how to do decimals and have another game on snooker maths tomorrow. We need to practise our weighing and I hope we can make buns!
Wednesday 19th October
Today was yet again another fun day because we learnt some dancing from Mr Slater. He used to be a Head teacher of another school and he made maths fun. Mr Slater told us about 2 mathematicians. Their names were A.A.Milnes and Lewis Carroll. These people were famous for writing books such as Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh not for being mathematicians. He also linked our Greek topic in to the maths by telling us about Archimedes. Mr Slater played the guitar and piano and we danced and sang to it. We did a square dance and 2 circle dances. We were not very good at the first dance because it was hard. We heard Mr Slater playing lots of different instruments throughout the day and one was an accordion. We also had fun working on multiplication and in particular our 4 and 7 times tables. We played a calculator competition and we found out that a calculator was not always the best options. Sometimes our brains were quicker. We have finally found out who won the jelly bean competition and some of us were shocked at the number of jelly beans in the van.
Thursday 20th October
Today was better than the rest of the week because we made buns. When we put the wings on with Miss Harwood, she let us lick the butter icing off our fingers. As we were being called out, we made a book for some children in French linked to counting. We had a fun time in the morning baking and weighing the ingredients. We played maths games and some of us worked well in a group. Miss Ford came in to visit us today and played the games with us. The best thing today was cooking. Henry was really good at the sudoku puzzle that we completed. We were so busy this afternoon that we nearly missed our playtime. We are waiting to know the winner of the hat competition and we will find out tomorrow. We are also waiting to see who wins the snooker competition. We have found out who has entered the competition from class 4 who are Daniel, Jack and Ozias.
Friday 21st October
It was a special day today because it was the snooker maths tournament, the hat competition and also Brooke's birthday. Aaron was happy today because his brother won the hat competition for Year one. We were pleased because Daniel nearly beat a Year 6 girl at the snooker maths tournament and he is only a Year 5! We watched a maths video which was like James Bond. James was back at school today. He was feeling lots better and he was very happy that he had won the jelly bean competition. Being a true friend, he shared his prize with another pupil. The local newspaper came in today to take pictures of our hats. We had a brilliant and fun week and we can't wait for maths week next year.
