LUDDENDENFOOT J&I SCHOOL

ASSESSMENT POLICY

Introduction

By law teachers must formally assess pupils’ progress as follows:

At Luddendenfoot assessment forms an integral part of the curriculum provision.  Pupils are set targets for improvement and assessment is the tool used to measure the progress towards those targets.  Pupils will develop a portfolio of work during the first week of each term.  This should help to show pupil progress and progression.

Aims

Teachers use assessment to:

1.         Inform planning for individuals and for the class group.

2.         Identify pupils who have special needs.

3.         Track pupil progress towards targets.

4.         Compare progress locally and nationally.

5.         Set future targets and pitch them realistically.

6.         Include children and parents in the target-setting process.

7.         Inform parents regularly of their child’s progress.

8.         Inform other teachers and professionals of individual children’s progress.
9.         Facilitate a smooth transition for the child between classes, key stages and schools.

10.       Assist teachers in placement of pupils in appropriate classes.

Broad guidelines for the implementation of the policy

1.         By the end of October Baseline Assessment for Reception children completed.

2.         Individual targets to be set each term through discussion with the child and the parents.  All children will have curriculum targets but some targets set for children with their parents may be for personal/social development.

4.         Pupils’ learning will be assessed regularly in order to inform future planning.

5.         Assessment will also inform the teacher of any special need and action will be taken.

6.         Evidence of assessments in the core subjects will be recorded as targets are met throughout the year.  These will be kept in individual pupil folders.

7.         Each term working on agreed rota basis assessments will be linked to the topics or to a discreet area.

8.         Teaching staff will bring together samples of the children’s work and moderate the levels by consensus.

9.         Parents’ evenings held in:
