LUDDENDENFOOT J&I SCHOOL
DISPLAY POLICY
Introduction
We believe that our school should be warm and welcoming, clean and uncluttered and should be stimulating, interesting and visually exciting. Displays make an immediate impression and reflect the image and the ethos of the school.
Broad Guidelines
- Displays should be stimulating, interesting and encourage interaction.
- Pupils’ work should be presented in a positive way.
- Displays should acknowledge the diverse range of activities, subjects and interests in our school.
Specific Guidelines
- Displays will use: Artefacts and objects; photographs and books; natural objects; pictures and posters
- Displays within the classroom should be informative, reinforcing children’s learning through further information and interactive activities.
- Displays within classrooms are to be pinned to the fabric boards, it is unnecessary to cover with paper.
- Children’s work to be displayed around the school in the hall and along corridors.
- Displays will be changed every half term.
- When backing paper is faded or torn it will be replaced. As a rule wallpaper will not be used.
- All work will be mounted. Double mounting often enhances pupil’s work. A4/A3 mounts to be reused where possible, blue-tack/pin work onto them.
- Interaction with the display will be encouraged by a variety of means: Labels which challenge; including activities in the display, e.g. a maths display that includes a weighing activity; artefacts and objects which can be touched.
- Not all displays will assume literary competence.
- Where the written word is included it will be in a variety of forms; cut out letters; computer text; plastic letters; joined script- school handwriting style; capital letters; logos etc.
To reflect the world of print around us; There will be discreet use of blu-tac, staples, dressmaking pins or map pins. Drawing pins will not be used.
Evaluation
The policy will be judged to be effective if the school looks bright, welcoming and attractive and when there is genuine interest and interaction.
Photographic evidence will be kept by the Headteacher for reference and evaluation.
