HOMEWORK POLICY
At Luddendenfoot we feel that the setting of regular homework can help to raise self-esteem, strengthen home/school links and help to develop the study skills needed in later life.
Aims
- To show children that both home and school share an interest in their learning.
- To demonstrate that valuable learning can take place at home as well as at school
- To consolidate pupils’ learning and motivation.
- To help children to develop study skills.
- To develop self confidence and experience approval.
Broad Guidelines
- Homework will be set regularly from class 1 to class 5.
- The content of the homework will bear a direct relation to the age and ability of the child.
- It will involve both parent and child, in the first instance.
- Homework guidelines will be sent out at the beginning of each year.
- The class teacher will provide more detailed instructions to both parent and child including the “pattern” of homework i.e. which days it will be sent home.
- The amount set will be manageable for both parents and children.
- Tasks set will generally result in praise for the child.
- The work set should benefit the pupils and be seen as an enjoyable activity.
- Pupils will be praised for effort with their homework.
Homework can come in many different forms and may have different purposes at various stages of a child’s development at school. Whatever the task we will seek to ensure that it is interesting, will support work in the classroom and is within the capabilities of the child.
This policy will be reviewed biannually.
