PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION
- All Teaching Staff and Classroom Support Assistants will be time tabled to supervise the playground at playtime.
- The timetable will be kept in the classrooms, staff-room and school office.
- The duty member of staff should be outside as soon as possible.
- The member of staff should not leave the playground whilst on duty.
- The supervisor will carry a 2-way radio (located in the office) whilst on duty and replace in office at end of playtime.
- All children must ask permission to enter the building, once they have gone out to play.
- The supervisor should, at all times try to position him/herself or herself to ensure that all the children are visible.
- The supervisor should give their attention to all the children and not become involved with a small group.
- The supervisor will ensure doors are locked whilst on playground duty and once the children have re-entered school.
- In cases of unacceptable behaviour children should not be sent into school. Another member of staff or the Headteacher should be sent for, or in less serious cases the child should be asked to stand by the wall.
- All accidents should be recorded in line with the school’s accident recording procedures.
- Adults supervising the playground should not be distracted from their supervisory role by becoming involved in conversations with other adults.
- Playground procedures will be reviewed by the teaching and non-teaching staff annually.
