Policy on Smoking
Introduction
- Smoking is the single most preventable cause of premature death and ill health in our society.
- Passive smoking (breathing other people’s tobacco smoke,) is also potentially fatal.
- Smoking is a health and safety issue for all adults who use the school: staff and parents.
- Everyone has the right to breathe clean air
Aims
- We believe that Luddendenfoot J&I School has a role to play in working towards non smoking being seen as the norm in society.
- We believe that our children need to receive constant messages and require non-smoking role models within the school.
Broad guidelines for the implementation of the policy
- The governors, staff and parents of Luddendenfoot School have decided that no smoking will take place on school premises.
- The smoking policy applies to all visitors to the school, (for example, parents, suppliers, supply or temporary staff and repair people).
- Clearly worded signs will be displayed at various points around the school.
- Staff members will inform visitors of the policy when necessary.
- Parents will be asked to support the policy.
- The policy will support the Health Education Curriculum of the school.
- The Local Authority will be informed.
Implementation/Evaluation/Review
The policy will be reviewed at regular intervals, as indicated by the School Development Plan, to ensure that it continues to meet the general principal.
